Liverpool flop Alberto Aquilani has urged Juventus chiefs to swoop for unsettled right-back Glen Johnson.

The England defender's future at Anfield is unclear after manager Roy Hodgson criticised his performances this season, while there has also been reports that Johnson wants to quit Merseyside over his relationship with the Reds boss.

Juventus have been linked with a move for Johnson in recent weeks.

And Aquilani - who is on a season-long loan at Juve from Liverpool - has urged the Serie A club to pull out all the stops to secure Johnson's services.

The midfielder told Gazzetta dello Sport: 'What former Liverpool team-mate would I bring to Juventus?

'I wouldn't want to offend some of my friends, but from Liverpool I would take Glen Johnson.'

Aquilani has also reaffirmed his wish to make his loan switch permanent.

The ex-Roma star failed to make an impact at Anfield last season after he was signed by former boss Rafa Benitez for £17million to be Xabi Alonso's replacement.

Liverpool will look to recoup as much of their outlay on Aquilani as possible and the Italy international said: 'I hope to convince the directors of Juventus to buy me from Liverpool. At Juve I would like to open a new era with the team.

'Sixteen million euros is a lot, but they can negotiate. Juve was a huge opportunity for me, I could not lose it. Leaving Italy was not easy, I faced many life changes.'
