Liverpool FC team of the decade voted for by ECHO readers

22 December 2010 07:00
It may not have the glitz and glamour of X-Factor or Strictly Come Dancing, but at least we didn't have to put up with Simon Cowell and Len Goodman for this. Yes, the votes have been counted, the results are in, and now the real debate can start.[LNB]Last week the ECHO asked you to vote for your Liverpool 'team of the noughties'. And it is fair to say the response was overwhelming; hundreds and hundreds have cast their votes, and we can now reveal who you have chosen as the best Reds of the last ten years.......[LNB]Goalkeeper - Pepe Reina[LNB]For the goalkeeper's jersey, there was only ever one serious contender. Jerzy Dudek may have been the hero of the Reds' 2005 Champions League triumph but, with just 4.1% of the votes, he was left very much in the shade here. Sander Westerveld (0.8%) trailed in in third place.[LNB]That's because Pepe Reina's impact since his arrival on Merseyside in 2005 has been undeniable, and the Spaniard's consistency, presence and popularity among supporters is reflected in the fact that he picked up 95.1% of the votes. He may only have one major trophy - the 2006 FA Cup - to show for his five years at Anfield so far but, at 28, the former Villarreal stopper has plenty of time to elevate himself into the realm of Anfield legends. If he hasn't already, that is.[LNB] "Reina is bar far the best and most consistent, but Sander and Jerzy have their own place in Liverpool history, Dudek, in particular, will never be forgotten for Istanbul alone." - Paul Cunningham[LNB]Right back of the decade >>>>>>
