Liverpool FC manager Rafa Benitez to help Dirk Kuyt return to his best

24 December 2009 08:30
RAFA BENITEZ today promised to help Dirk Kuyt recapture his very best form - even if it means taking the Dutchman out of Liverpool's team.[LNB]Since arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2006, Kuyt has become one of Benitez's most trusted lieutenants and, in the main, tends to be one of the first names on the teamsheet. There have been signs in the last couple of months, though, that Kuyt could do with a chance to catch his breath.[LNB]He has played in every Liverpool game since September 26 and Benitez does not want to expose someone who will have a key role to fill in the second half of the season, to too much football. That's why he is scouring the fixture list - as well as monitoring the club's sick bay - to see when he may be able to take Kuyt, who has scored six times so far, out of the fray. [LNB]'We have had some players who have had to play too many games this season and that is a consequence of the injuries,' said Benitez.[LNB]'But I'm sure that if we have some more players we will be able to manage in a different way and give the ones who need it some rest, so they will be fresh for the next match. Dirk has played too many games, we know this. [LNB]'He could have had a little break against Fiorentina but (David) Ngog was ill and we needed to play him.[LNB]'But we know Dirk will get back to his levels, for sure. [LNB]'He is an amazing player, his work rate is fantastic and we can see that because we are watching all their statistics.
