Liverpool FC fans letters: Blame Moores and Benitez for this mess

THE question of who is to blame for creating the worst Liverpool team for over 40 years is a blatantly easy one to answer.[LNB]Firstly, David Moores for inexplicably selling the club to the two Americans rather than the money-rich Arabs, who were also Liverpool supporters.[LNB]Secondly, Rafa Benitez who, after five years, is now presiding over the worst team squad I can ever remember.[LNB]Indeed, where the media get the idea that he retains the support of the fans is beyond me, as this is not the case to the many supporters that I talk to. Why?[LNB]1. Far too many of the first team squad (many usually playing) are clearly and simply not good enough.[LNB]2. The ridiculous situation with Xabi Alonso who would never have left the club but for Mr Benitez wanting to sell him.[LNB]So this excellent footballer was not only sold by the club but the nonsense was then compounded by the failure to sign Gareth Barry who was earmarked as his replacement.[LNB]He then pays £20m for Aquilani who came injured but now when fit, doesn't play him![LNB]3. Who in their right mind would start a season with just one top class forward?[LNB]Fans and pundits alike realised that in the summer the team must acquire a top class forward (to play alongside Torres) and a top class left-sided midfield player.[LNB]However, Mr Benitez paid a record price for a full-back![LNB]Therefore, and notwithstanding that we cannot defend, like last season, there is no-one to score the goals when Torres is not playing.
