Liverpool FC defender Jamie Carragher backs Anfield crowd to save teams season

JAMIE CARRAGHER today issued a rallying cry as he predicted home comforts will help turn Liverpool's ailing season around. The Reds suffered another serious blow to their ambitions at the weekend when they suffered their third straight away defeat - this time a 1-0 reverse at Sunderland. There was a huge slice of good fortune to Darren Bent's winning goal - his shot struck a beach-ball to wrong foot Pepe Reina - but Carragher was not looking to make excuses. Liverpool's vice-captain is not one to mince his words and he admitted that the display at the Stadium of Light was way below what is expected of the club. But he is not one to dwell on disappointment either and hopes there will be a united front between players and supporters for two huge Anfield fixtures against Lyon and Manchester United. 'We are not playing well, the supporters know that, and I'm sure there is going to be a lot of stick flying around before the Lyon game,' said Carragher. 'That's part of playing for a big club but I think come kick-off tomorrow night, our supporters will rally around us, as they know we need a confidence boost. 'We will all stick together and there will be a great atmosphere, as there always is at Anfield for these occasions, and I'm sure we will respond to that.
