Liverpool eyeing Belgium forward for incoming transfer window

'Goodbye, Brendan?' With the embarrassing loss of their closing Premier League match as well as club legend Steven Gerrard, the Reds complete a what has been an enormous debacle of a campaign and instead of pleading guilty for this 'season to remember', the club are battling to move on in the form of transfers.

Certain Liverpool loanees testing luck outside Anfield got away as bad as Rodgers' men themselves. Divock Origi earned spot in 'Worst XI' of Ligue 1 Season with 4,46 average rating, despite scoring on nine occasions for Lille. £3m forward Luis Alberto fired home no more than two times for Malaga in this year's La Liga. And with Sterling on exit door, Reds are out of well-performing forwards.

Despite Origi declining, yet another Belgian might be coming their way. Aston Villa had ended their 2014-15 campaign in 17th position, one win away from relegation zone and it was mostly goals from Christian Benteke that kept them up.

Benteke, 24, ensured 9th place on top scorers list with impressive 13 goals from 29 Premiership games. Interestingly, Villa have all-together scored 31 times. Tim Sherwood must be thanking precisely Benteke for league survival insurance.

Liverpool Echo have reported on possible transfer exchange that includes bringing Benteke to Anfield, whilst Rickie Lambert would be shipped off to Villa Park. The Birmingham staff have already tried to persuade ex - Southampton striker to join in January, so it gives some hope of sealing the deal this summer.

With Daniel Sturridge heavily injured and Balotelli failing to produce, Liverpool are in desperate need of a striker. Scouts might be having eyes on Benteke, but they will have to look much further to get the team back on the right track.
