According to reports in the Metro, Liverpool will be making a move for out-of-favour Lazio striker Mauro Zarate in the January transfer window.

The Argentinian striker has made just four appearances for Lazio in Serie A this season and is thought to be available for around €10 million. Stoke are also reportedly interested in the striker, as well as Malaga and Spartak Moscow.

Although Liverpool looks like the most likely destination for Zarate as it is believed he favours a move the the Premier League.

It won't be the first time the striker has played his trade in England, appearing for Birmingham City during the 2007/2008 season as a 21-year-old, netting four goals in fourteen appearances.

Liverpool have previously had contact with the striker, trying to sign him on loan during the 2011 off season but the prospective deal fell through. He then remained with Inter Milan, where he scored just twice in 22 league outings.
