Liverpool eye Darren Bent loan deal

The Metro are reporting that Aston Villa and England striker Darren Bent is in negotiations with Liverpool, with the Reds looking to bring Bent to Anfeild on loan in January.

Bent was available for selection against Arsenal on Saturday but Villa boss Paul Lambert chose to pick rookie striker Jordan Bowery as his back-up forward, leaving Bent out of the squad all together.

Liverpool are thought to be in advanced talks with the Bent , looking the bring the player in during the next transfer window with a view to making the deal permanent during the summer.

After admitting that Liverpool may not have the funds available to bring in an expensive new recruit during the January transfer window Rodgers sees Bent as the ideal solution to his problems and the striker would add much needed fire-power up front and take the burden off of Luis Suarez.

‘If we can get in the quality in the final third we need to support what we have, then there will be enough to keep the team moving forward,’ said Rodgers.

‘But I am not so sure that will happen in January. This year the club wanted to balance the books and see where we are at.

‘There has been big investment in the club and lots of players went out and a few came in during the summer, so we will look to do some business.’

One stumbling block that may prevent Liverpool from signing Bent is the fact that the striker cost Villa £22 million just two years ago and is their record signing. But with the players relationship with Lambert reportedly strained it wouldn't come as a surprise to see Bent leave Villa Park.
