Liverpool eye £10m Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta
Rafa Benitez is ready to add defensive reinforcements to his squad with a £10million move for Athletic Bilbao centre-back Fernando Amorebieta.
Liverpool are desperate to sign a central defender and Benitez has been tracking Hull's £10million-rated Michael Turner, while Stoke's Ryan Shawcross has been linked with a £5million move to Anfield.
To add to Benitez's concerns, defensive linchpins Martin Skrtel and Jamie Carragher took a battering in the 2-1 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, with Skrtel having to be replaced after sustaining a facial injury.
Benitez had the imposing Amorebieta watched in Bilbao on Sunday night as the 6ft 3in star was playing Barcelona in the Spanish equivalent of the Community Shield.
Despite receiving £30million for midfielder Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid, Benitez may still struggle to convince Liverpool's American owners to pay the fee for a player who has not yet been capped by Spain.
