Liverpool duo head home

Liverpool's injured duo Martin Skrtel and Nabil El Zhar will fly home from the Far East on Thursday to have potentially serious injuries assessed in the UK. Both players were injured in Wednesday's 1-1 friendly draw with Thailand in Bangkok. Liverpool have now flown on for the second leg of their Asian tour and have arrived in Singapore for Sunday's match against the national side, but Skrtel and El Zhar were heading in the opposite direction back to Merseyside to undergo scans on their injuries. Central defender Skrtel has a hamstring problem while midfielder El Zhar damaged a knee ligament. Skrtel's is potentially the most serious injury and it is feared he could miss the start of the season. El Zhar will also not be involved now for at least a fortnight, and may not be available until the home friendly with Atletico Madrid on August 8. Liverpool have also had to contend with an Achilles injury for Glen Johnson and an ankle problem for Yossi Benayoun while on this trip, but neither are serious. Benayoun missed the Thailand game, while Johnson was involved. Both should figure against Singapore.
