Johnson was signed by Benítez in the summer for £18 million and, despite a promising start to his Anfield career on a personal level, has endured along with the team in a run of a single victory in the last nine games.

However, the former Chelsea and Portsmouth defender, who was forced last night to withdraw from England's international friendly with Brazil in Doha on Saturday, believes the current squad and management can turn things around.

'Rafa's done a fantastic job here and will continue to do so.
