Liverpool ready bid to sign Dutch hitman Klass Jan Huntelaar – after German side Schalke suspended contract talks with the Dutchman.

Metro are reporting that Liverpool are in the hunt to sign Schalke hitman Klass Jan Huntelaar this January – as Rodgers aims to improve his striking options for Liverpool. Huntelaar netted an incredible 48 goals in all competitions for Schalke last season – and has been linked with numerous moves around Europe due to his phenomenal displays.

Liverpool are the latest club to be linked with Huntelaar – but the former AC Milan and Real Madrid front man has also been linked with Italian giants Juventus. However – with a previous stint in Serie A in which Huntelaar failed to convince, he is believed to have his eye on a move to The Barclays Premier League – as early as this January.

Huntelaar is currently in the final year of his contract at Schalke – and having seen Spanish legend Raul, his former striker partener, leave the club, Huntelaar is rumoured to be unhappy in Germany.

At Schalke, Huntelaar has been able to put previous stints at bigger clubs behind him. He spent half a season at Real Madrid before moving to AC Milan, for only a year. However, the Dutchman has put all that behind him and in Schalke he has proven his potential – something he has always shown on the international stage.

For the Dutch U21 team – Huntelaar had a phenomenal record. With 18 goals in 22 games. Along with 34 goals in 59 appearances – Huntelaar has the big game experience and mentality to thrive in The Barclay's Premier League, and with Liverpool.

In July – Schalke manager Horst Heldt told Bild: “Huntelaar has a £16million buy out clause in his contract, and rich clubs can afford it.”

The Dutchman scored 48 goals and created 10 assist for his team mates last season. Scoring a goal ever 96 minutes in the league as well as assisting a goal every 76 minutes. In fact, in the last 7 seasons Huntelaar has scored 194 goals. Averaging 28 goals a season. Although recent transfers may have stalled his career – Huntelaar has scored goals wherever hes been.

Whether or not Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers will wait for his contract to expire and hope to sign him on a free next summer – or if they'll bid for their man in January is yet to be seen. However, if Liverpool are to sign the Dutchman – you can almost guarantee he will score goals for Merseyside club.
