An stoppage-time winner from Dejan Lovren completed a remarkable Europa League comeback from Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp got the better of his former club Borussia Dortmund.

With the tie poised at 1-1 going into the second leg at Anfield, Dortmund appeared to have taken a giant step towards the semi-finals when Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored inside 10 minutes.

Divock Origi pulled one back just after half-time but Marco Reus made it 3-1 in the 57th minute, leaving Liverpool needing three goals for the most unlikely of victories.

Philippe Coutinho's effort did not look too significant until Mamadou Sakho levelled the scores on the night with 12 minutes remaining.

And it was his centre-back partner Lovren who finished the job, heading in in the first minute of time added on to spark scenes of jubilation at Anfield.

Villarreal reached their fourth European semi-final and will have the chance to challenge for a first final after easing to a 4-2 win over Sparta Prague - 6-3 on aggregate.

The Spaniards put the tie to bed with first-half goals from Cedric Bakambu, Samuel Castillejo and Bruno Soriano.

Bakambu then netted again in the 49th minute but Sparta kept fighting and had the consolation of goals from Borek Dockal and Ladislav Krejci.

Captain Darijo Srna toasted breaking Shakhtar Donetsk's all-time appearance record with a goal and two assists as the Ukrainians thumped Braga 4-0.

Leading 2-1 from the first leg, Shakhtar took the lead in the 25th minute through a penalty from full-back Srna on his 486th appearance for the club.

The unlucky Ricardo Ferreira scored two own goals, one from a Srna cross, with the Croatian also setting up Viktor Kovalenko.
