Liverpool closing in on dream Falcao move?

One of those players who could eclipse Fabregas as the signing of the summer, albeit a loan would be Radamel Falcao. The player has already stated his interest in joining the Premier League outfit in this window according to the Mail although with the caveat that it would be as a second choice to Real Madrid.

The Colombian strikers predicted move from Monaco back to Spain appears to have stalled with Real making James Rodriguez their first choice and apparently needing to shift a player themselves before they can spend again on Falcao.

It doesn’t take a great mind to see that Monaco need to sell, the player wants to leave the French league and go to La Liga but Real can’t afford him this season so the alternative is for him to throw a tent up somewhere for a season. Should Real not shift Di Maria or Khedira for example to help them overcome strict FFP rules then Falcao could make a brief cameo in the Prem.

As marriages of convenience go this situation could certainly suit Liverpool who would have a proven world class striker, the one position that Brendan Rodgers says he needs to strengthen whilst side-stepping the contractual burden. Falcao, although still looking expensive with his reported £200k/week salary and eye-watering £12m loan fee could be the difference to get Liverpool into the Champions League for a second season, making the above outlay actually make financial sense.

Of course something could happen to put Real Madrid in a position to buy Falcao outright with noises being made still about Angel Di Maria going to Manchester United and Khedira also to United or Arsenal. Real though it would seem have set the price bar high so expect some brinkmanship to make any kind of deal work although they may be cautious to provide the funds to ensure that Falcao definitely goes to Real and not Liverpool this term.
