Liverpool can cope without Steven Gerrard says Charlie Adam

New Liverpool signing Charlie Adam is confident the club have enough strength in depth in midfield to cope with the loss of Steven Gerrard. [LNB]Gerrard has succumbed to an infection in his groin, an area the 31-year-old had surgery on last season, and will be out for at least six weeks.  [LNB]The news comes as a blow to to the club who will miss their captain for the first three games of the season, against Sunderland, Arsenal and Bolton but is expected to return on September 10. [LNB] Proper Charlie: Adam is backing Reds to start well despite Gerrard's absence[LNB]But Adam believes their is enough talent in the squad which has been bolstered by the summer arrivals of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland and Stewart Downing from Aston, plus his switch from Blackpool. [LNB]He said: 'Liverpool have many other talented midfielders. I think the competition for places will be good for the club. I thrive on that type of challenge and I'm sure the other lads will as well.[LNB]'I want to learn and there are some of the best players in the world at this club, so if I can learn from them I am going to improve as a player.[LNB] New blood: The arrival of Henderson and Downing will help soften blow of Gerrard's injury[LNB] 'I see this as the perfect development for me to come here, play with such wonderful players and hopefully helpthe team to win trophies.'[LNB]And the ?7.5m man is hoping he can help the club return to winning silverware, something a club of Liverpool's stature should be doing regularly.
