Javier Mascherano was facing an increasingly uncertain Liverpool future last night after Roy Hodgson admitted he had been unable to contact his unsettled midfielder.[LNB] Anxious to hear his views on being linked with a move to Inter Milan, Hodgson left a series of voice and text messages on Mascherano's mobile phone but revealed none had been returned.[LNB] Out of reach: Javier Mascherano[LNB] Hodgson played down the significance of apparently being cold-shouldered, though it reinforced belief that the Argentina skipper may be trying to engineer his departure from Anfield to link up again with his former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez at Inter.[LNB] 'I have tried to contact Javier,' said the Liverpool manager. 'I have left him voice messages and sent him texts but had no reply. He has had a tough World Cup, and I believe he has gone back to Argentina. I wanted to make it clear I'd be happy to talk with him at his convenience, but it's not always easy getting in touch with people.'[LNB] Hodgson flatly denied being on the verge of signing West Ham target and Nice striker Loic Remy, saying: 'He was mentioned to me by the scouting department, and the club were following him before I arrived. But I know very little about him. If I'm going to be interested in a player, I have to watch him play, study him and make judgements. I have not been able to do that.'
