Liverpool boss defends Andy Carroll

Kenny Dalglish accuses the press of putting undue pressure on Andy Carroll and insists he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone at the club.

The £35m former Newcastle striker scored his first Premier League goal for Liverpool in their 2-0 win at Everton.

"I don't think confidence is his problem," said Dalglish after the game. "I think the problem with Andy Carroll is the media. Let the boy live a bit.

"You keep talking about his way of life but I don't think you know what it is so I don't think people can accuse him of having a bad way of life.

"He's been fantastic, his stats in training are better than most people's. Maybe they should be authors because they've got a vivid imagination."Price tag is irrelevant. He's every been important to us as Steven Gerrard and Carragher who cost us nothing so forget about money.

"He never had anything to prove to anybody at our place so we were delighted for him, but if he hadn't scored and we'd won 2-0 we'd have still been delighted."
