Liverpool boss Dalglish bemused by obsession with £35m striker Carroll
Kenny Dalglish has questioned the 'obsession' and 'paranoia' over Andy Carroll's form and claimed the striker's ?35million price tag is an irrelevance.[LNB]The Liverpool manager must decide whether to bring Carroll back into his starting line-up for Saturday's home clash with Wolves after he was rested in midweek for the Carling Cup victory at Brighton.[LNB]Before that, though, Carroll had underwhelmed in Liverpool's 4-0 defeat at Tottenham last Sunday, leaving his critics again querying the start he has made to the new Barclays Premier League season.[LNB] Under pressure? Andy Carroll has yet to shine for Liverpool this season[LNB]'I think people are obsessed with Andy Carroll,' said Dalglish. 'I'm an old guy and I'm still learning. I don't understand the paranoia with Andy. [LNB]'People talk about him like they know him. They don't know him. They talk about his lifestyle what lifestyle? Everybody is obsessed with him.[LNB]'He is young. But he's an excellent player and will be a valuable asset for us. He knows we are on the same side as him. That's important. We'll always look after him and I'm sure he'll look after us.'[LNB]Carroll has only scored twice in the league in for Liverpool since his record breaking move from Newcastle in January - a double against Manchester City in April.[LNB]A further complication is that Liverpool certainly appear to play more fluent football when Luis Suarez plays alongside Dirk Kuyt or Craig Bellamy.[LNB] Sharp shooter: Craig Bellamy was on target against Brighton[LNB]But Dalglish has no problems with how the England international is performing and is dumbfounded that the way he has chosen to use Carroll has caused such conjecture. [LNB]'There are other players (here) who haven't played either,' Dalglish said. 'The price tag is irrelevant. So if we get someone in on a Bosman, does that mean they are rubbish?'[LNB]'If the team changes, it changes. The team changes not just for the sake of it but for the benefit of everyone for varying reasons. That will continue.[LNB]'People can pick out individuals but that's not something we like to do.
