Liverpool bid for Brazilian rising star

According to the Daily Mirror Liverpool are about to sign Brazil international Diego Costa. They have made an official £21.8 million offer for the 24-year old striker which is enough to trigger a buy-out clause in his contract with Athletico Madrid. Sources at the club insist the deal does not signal the end for Luis Suarez, and Rodgers said yesterday he has cash to spend if he wants to.

Everyone will jump the gun a little if this deal is true with fans automatically thinking Suarez is on way out but thinking about it Liverpool may need more fire power up-front. Don't forget Suarez is till serving his ten match suspension, Daniel Sturridge is injury prone at the moment and although he will be back for the start of the season it will take a few games for him to get back to his goal scoring best and of course there’s the goal shy Borini who is really struggling to find the back of the net for Liverpool so he might not be totally reliable as yet. Aspas looks more likely to start as the main striker, scoring three goals in three games for Liverpool.

So what do we know about Diego Costa? Well he’s 24 years old from Brazil and standing at 6 ft 2 he’s not the typical striker Brendan Rodgers would go for, but what he will offer is much needed presence up front. He had a major set back in 2011 after he sustained a serious knee injury, going on to miss the majority of the season. In 2012 he was loaned out to fellow club Rayo Vallecano and bounced back in style scoring four goals in three games for Rayo and hit nine in just 16 appearances. He’s also been a target for Arsenal after netting 20 goals in 44 games last season.
