Liverpool await £400m bid from unnamed overseas buyer

Renowned deal-broker Keith Harris claims an overseas buyer isconsidering making an offer of between £400million and £500million for Liverpool.[LNB]The former Football League chairman, who has had a hand in the salesof Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City in the past, said duediligence has already been done.[LNB]Harris also said the party he was representing was not one mentioned publicly before.[LNB] New face in the race: Both Yahya Kirdi (left) and Kenny Huang(right) have backed away from a deal to buy Liverpool despite stating an early interest[LNB]'The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. A hugeamount of work has been done,' he said. 'It is none of the groupsmentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court to makean offer.[LNB]'I do not think the deal will be done before the transfer windowcloses this month but the next pressure point is October when some ofthe RBS loan of £237million has to be repaid.[LNB]'It may happen then. But in the present climate these things are impossible to predict.'[LNB] Unpopular: The American ownership of Gillett (left) and Hicks has long lost the support of the Anfield faithful[LNB]Last week Hong Kong-based businessman Kenny Huang - whose interestwas allied to the Chinese government - pulled out of the biddingprocess, while Syrian-Canadian Yahya Kirdi's much-publicised interesthas been treated with scepticism.[LNB]Harris said history has taught him that those who went public before an agreement had been reached rarely succeeded.[LNB]'The Chinese government involvement was always a bit far-fetched,'he told the Evening Standard. 'In any takeover situation, when peopleresort to announcing it to the media, you have to question theseriousness of the offer.[LNB]'If the name of the prospective buyer comes out before the deal is done then probably it is never going to be done.[LNB] Tricky times: Liverpool have amassed just one point and one goal from their first two Premier League games[LNB]'Look at when Chelsea was sold in 2003. My firm was advising theclub and we only knew of Roman Abramovich on the Thursday before thedeal was completed the following Tuesday.'[LNB] Harris worked on a bid for Liverpool two years ago for KuwaitiNasser Al Khorafi, whom it is claimed agreed a deal for £300million upfront and another £100million based on financial performance only topull out at the last minute.[LNB]'He just lost his appetite. No explanation was forthcoming,' added Harris.[LNB] Show us the money: Anfield chiefs want proof that Chinese tycoon can pay for clubLiverpool versus Manchester City?
