Liverpool are set for a busy summer in the transfer market

Since the return to the Champions league was secured talk of squad depth has been a major talking point for any fan of the Merseyside club. Last week most of the news outlets ran stories talking up a potential move for Southampton captain Adam Lallana and this seems to be just the start of what promises to be a busy summer for Liverpool football club.

With Brendan Rodgers seemingly solved Liverpool’s goal scoring woes by pairing Suarez and Sturridge to lethal effect the emphasis is now to build from the back and add some finishing touches to the forward line.

The Mirror seems to have an idea on what Rodgers and his scouts are looking for as they claim Liverpool retain their interest in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos (which i personally doubt, due to his injury woes over the last two seasons) and is tracking Cardiff's Steven Caulker, whom he had on loan while manager at Swansea.

It seems that Glen Johnson, (one of the last £100,000 a week players) with a year left of his contract and Daniel Agger, evidently out of favour, will head towards the Anfield exit this summer.

The Guardian also chip in saying the reds are interested in Luke Shaw from Southampton (like most of the big clubs after a left-back) but will not bid if the asking price is anywhere near the £30 million quoted.

The Liverpool boss will also have Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori back from his impressive loan spell at La Liga outfit Granada.

It pretty obvious that Rodgers does not rate either Jose Enrique or Aly Cissokho (on loan from Valencia), and his chief scout Barry Hunter has been watching Sporting Lisbon's Argentina left-back Marcos Rojo.

Again according to the Mirror article the Reds will return for Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, while Rodgers is still keen on Henrik Mkhitaryan, despite missing out on him when he moved to Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Rodgers has also identified Benfica's attacking midfielder Lazar Markovic and Nuremberg's Swiss striker Josip Drmic as possible targets.

Lastly the Dailymail is reporting that Real Sociedad pair Antoine Griezmann and Inigo Martinez were watched by Liverpool scouts on Monday night.

The 24-year-old Frenchman has scored 16 goals in all competitions for Sociedad this season, but a fifth place finish means no Champions League football next year.

So a quick rundown of all the reports posted means the names that the papers are currently running with are: Griezmann, Markovic, Drmic, Konoplyanka, Mkhitaryan, Rojo, Papadopoulos, Caulker, Shaw and Lallana.

Next season should also be a breakthrough season for Joe Allen, the returning Suso & Fabio Borini and academy youngsters Joao-Carlos Teixiera, Brad Smith, Jordan Rossiter and Jack Dunn.

If all the above targets are landed (that’s a big if) Liverpool's squad depth would look immensely better than it currently is and with the reds hopefully challenging on all fronts, it’s going to be needed.
