Liverpool have been a revelation this season, surprising football fans around the world with their attacking flare and sublime passing. Being top of the league at Christmas is a massive achievement in itself, although Liverpool are scoring a vast amount of goals the problem I see is that if Suarez wasn't in the side, where would the goals come from? We have no other recognised striker until Sturridge returns and that for me is worrying. Aspas hasn't yet delivered the goods that made him a favourite at Celta Vigo and could well be sent out on loan this month with Swansea keen to secure his services.
The difference between Liverpool and the other top sides is that they have far more quality on the bench, so obviously when a game isn't going to plan they have far more options than what this Liverpool side as. Its definitely shown this problem in the past few games with the inclusion of a couple of academy stars drafted in to make up the numbers. Although Sturridge as been a huge hit at Anfield he does seem quite injury prone so strengthening the forward line looks like a possibility this month, but it doesn't look like its a position that Rodgers will be looking at as yet with an attacking midfielder and a left back looking like his priority.
Mohamed Salah is the name being linked with a move to Anfield. According to The Mirror, Brendan Rodgers is still trying to thrash out a deal for the well known attacking midfielder, also nicknamed the Egyptian Messi. Salah is extremely pacey without the ball but as yet to convert that extra yard of pace when in possession. His sharp decision making, his movement and his composure in front of goal makes him such an attractive option for the Anfield giants. I’m Sure the prospect of Salah, Suarez and Sturridge in the same side is mouth watering for any football fan. Salah as a host of admirers around Europe so he will not be short of offers. Lets just hope the attractive football Liverpool are playing at the moment is enough to persuade the 21 year old star that LFC is the place for him.
The left back position is another problem for the reds at the moment, with Enrique injured until February and Cissokho yet to have an impact, he may see this position as the top of his list. You cant take anything away from young Flanagan, this guy as stepped up and done the job but can we rely on him until May? I’m not so sure Flanagan is the answer. I do know Liverpool need to get their business done quickly in January to stand any chance of winning the league. Another three or four faces this month and the reds waint be a million miles away come May.
