With the exception of a good first 20 minutes of the game for the visitors, Dalglish's men held their own and controlled the second half.
Mario Balotelli's sending off allowed Liverpool to dominate the final few minutes of the game but several saves by City keeper Joe Hart earned them the point and protected their unbeaten record.
