Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has backed team-mate Andy Carroll to "shine" for England should he be given the chance. The 22-year-old has enjoyed quite an incredible first season in the Barclays Premier League, resulting in a £35million January move from boyhood club Newcastle to Anfield. Carroll's form this campaign has also seen him break into the England team and club team-mate Lucas has backed the striker to become a focal point of Fabio Capello's side. Asked whether Carroll deserves an England started against Wales, the midfielder said: "I think so, he deserves it. Everything he is doing is great. "We know he has been out for a few months but we already know from the last few games he could play really well. Now he is getting his fitness back he will shine for England, I am sure."
