Kuyt enjoys Reds debut
29 Aug 2006 - 11:10:02
Liverpool new boy Dirk Kuyt was pleased with his debut at Anfield in the 2-1 win over West ham United.
The 26-year-old Netherlands international came on as a second-half sub against the Hammers and quickly showed the class that convinced the Reds to pay Feyenoord around £10million for his services.
Kuyt told the Daily Post: "It was a fantastic welcome. It was wonderful to play at Anfield, they are a wonderful crowd, but the most important thing was that we won.
"It was a pity I didn't score, but I'm sure it will come. I think I can do more than just score and I try and work hard for the team and make some assists.
"I haven't set myself any targets in terms of scoring goals. For me, that's not the most necessary thing, the most important for us is to win trophies."
Kuyt's new team-mate, compatriot Bolo Zenden, was also impressed by what he saw.
He added: "You've seen already he is a player with a lot of energy and someone who can not only score goals but deliver the passes for others.
"He's much more than just a goalscorer. He's shown in one game he's a very good signing for us."
