Kuyt delay angers Benitez
09 Oct 2006 - 11:12:46
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is fuming after learning that Dirk Kuyt may still play for Holland this week despite sustaining an ankle injury in his country's Euro 2008 qualifier against Bulgaria on Saturday.
Kuyt will have a scan on Monday under the supervision of Dutch medics, but Benitez thinks the player should have already been released from international duty.
"If Kuyt is a doubt for Wednesday, it means he is not fit," he told the Liverpool Echo.
"They were talking about seeing if he can play. If he plays, he may miss the next three or four games for Liverpool, including Blackburn, the Champions League and Manchester United.
"Our doctor spoke to the Dutch doctor on Sunday and they said he would have a scan."
Kuyt had to be substituted after only 16 minutes of the 1-1 draw against Bulgaria and is a major doubt for Wednesday's clash with Albania.
