Kuyt agrees Reds extension
03 Apr 2009 - 14:39:41
Dutch forward Dirk Kuyt has followed Steven Gerrard's example after signing a two-year contract extension at Liverpool.
The Reds confirmed on Friday morning that skipper Gerrard was now under contract at Anfield until summer 2013 after putting pen to paper on an extension.
Now Kuyt has followed suit after the 28-year-old pledged his future to the Merseyside club until 2012.
The Netherlands international has made over 135 appearances since joining from Feyenoord in the summer of 2006.
"This is another great piece of news for the club," manager Rafael Benitez told the club's official website.
"Dirk had one year left on his contract and we were keen for him to stay.
"He is a player with great quality who has a big part to play in our future. We are delighted to have reached an agreement.
"To have announced new deals for Steven and Dirk on the same day shows how hard everyone is working and that we are moving forward quickly as a club.
"These are very positive messages and I am very happy."
