Kuyt targets European spot

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has flourished during manager Kenny Dalglish's short spell in charge but he is more concerned with the team's performance rather than personal gain. The Holland international's goal in Saturday's 5-0 rout of Birmingham was his seventh in six Barclays Premier League matches and his 13th for the Reds this season. His eight goals since Dalglish took charge on January 8 make him the leading scorer under the Scot and he credits the Reds boss with his recent run of good form. Kuyt is only two short of his best goalscoring campaign in a red shirt two years ago but he is more focused on helping the team secure European football next term. "I am normally not the kind of player who has a personal target," said the 30-year-old, who recently signed a new contract at Anfield. "I would much more appreciate it if we went for a European spot, but it is nice to be involved in important moments. "As a forward player you want to score goals and I am very satisfied with the way things are going. That is also down to the manager, who gives me a lot of confidence - it doesn't matter whether I play on the right or up front I am just enjoying my time and hopefully I can score a few more."
