Kuyt reveals injury fears

Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt fears he may have torn ankle ligaments playing for Holland on Tuesday. Kuyt was forced off just before the hour mark in Oranje's 4-1 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Sweden in Amsterdam after landing awkwardly when jumping for a ball with Sweden's Daniel Majstorovic. And although he is still awaiting test results, he is not optimistic. He told www.sport-promotion.nl: "The swelling is so bad that we will only know with any certainty in a few days. "But I fear the worst. You know your own body and it does not feel good. The doctors have the same feeling, that it's probably torn ankle ligaments. Let's hope they and I are wrong." Kuyt wanted to play on after suffering the injury but was not allowed to do so by team doctors. He added: "I was so eager to get on after receiving treatment. It was nice that we were doing so well and closing in on victory. But the doctor said no. And when I tried to move the ankle I almost collapsed so he was right to keep me on the sidelines."
