Kuyt - Future looks bright

Dirk Kuyt has told skysports.com that he expects Liverpool to be an even stronger force in 2009/10. The Reds came agonisingly close to landing the Premier League title this season, only to be pipped by arch rivals Manchester United. However, a sustained challenge has seen the club heading in the right direction and much will be expected of them again next term. Key men such as Steven Gerrard and Daniel Agger have already committed their long-term future to the club, while Kuyt has also penned an extension to his current deal. That continuity will be crucial to the Anfield outfit as they look to end a 20-year wait for a top-flight crown, and Kuyt insists Rafa Benitez will not need too many fresh faces over the summer in order to be challenging for honours. "It's a really good situation for the club that a few players have signed, like Stevie and Daniel Agger, and we already have a really good team," the Holland international told skysports.com. "I am really pleased to see that most of the players are staying and if we can keep this team I think we can give an even harder push next season." Kuyt has also revealed his delight at extending his own stay on Merseyside and believes his fine form this season, which sees him just one goal shy of his best return in England, is down to being completely at ease in his current surroundings. "I am really happy with the way everything has gone this season and I have just tried to improve myself every week and every season," he added. "Hopefully I can score another goal in the last two games and then try and improve again next season as well. "I am very happy with the extension of my contract and hopefully I can do better than the first three seasons." Kuyt is yet to win a trophy during his time at Anfield, with the Reds having gone three years without landing a major honour, but the Dutchman is confident that situation will be resolved in 2010. "It is really disappointing because to play for a club like Liverpool is massive and you have to be playing for trophies," he said on the club's barren spell. "Every season we have been close to trophies but, at the end of the day, we haven't won a trophy for three seasons. "It definitely has to happen next season and I have confidence that we have the quality to be successful."
