Kuyt eyes title glory

Dirk Kuyt believes the current Liverpool squad only needs minor improvements in order to land an elusive Premier League title. The Reds lost fewer games than the eventual champions last season, and scored the most goals in the top flight, but costly draws meant arch rivals Manchester United pipped them to the title by four points. Manager Rafael Benitez has been quiet in this summers' transfer market, with retaining the services of star midfielders Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano the Spaniard's main concern. Benitez has, however, added right-back Glen Johnson to his squad for a reported £18m from Portsmouth, and winger Kuyt believes only minor tweaks are now needed to transform the team into Premier League winners. "I think the good thing will be that we (will) more or less stay as a team together and also we bought another player in Johnson," Kuyt said. "So if we improve the squad and just try and progress as a team and as a player of course as well, so hopefully that will be enough to win the title." Mistakes The Reds have not won a league title since 1990 and have suffered the agony of watching rivals Manchester United equal their haul of 18 titles during that time. Spaniard Albert Riera insists the team must learn from their mistakes last season and particularly improve their home form, where the Reds' inability to kill off games cost them the points which left them as runners-up. "If last year the winner had 90 points, that means you cannot have a lot of mistakes, you need to win every single game," Riera said, speaking on the club's tour of South East Asia. "A little bit of our mistakes last year were in Anfield when we made I remember three draws in a row, and we lost 6 points, we cannot lose those points (again)."
