Kop flops: Liverpool crash out of Youth Cup while 'arrogant' coaches say sorry
Liverpool's once famous youth system - which has not produced a regular Anfield first-team player for over 10 years - plunged to a new low last night.[LNB]First the club's Under 18s crashed out of the FA Youth Cup in the fifth round after a 1-0 home defeat to Watford.[LNB]But then came the embarrassing revelation that the Reds had issued an apology to Stoke City after their 'arrogant' youth coaches reacted angrily to a 4-0 home defeat in an FA Premier Academy League fixture. And two of the club's most high profile graduates, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, were in the Anfield stands for the Watford clash yesterday.[LNB]But the presence of the superstars - who made their first team debuts before the Reds' Academy in Kirkby had even opened - was not enough to inspire the class of 2010 to victory.[LNB]Instead they crashed out of the competition after Piero Mingoia slotted home a first half penalty in front of the Kop end.[LNB]And it has also emerged that academy coaches confronted their Stoke counterparts after last Saturday's game in a dispute over the Potters' line-up. [LNB]Liverpool claimed Stoke had reneged on an agreement about the number of first- and second-year players to be named in their team. [LNB] Graduate: Steven Gerrard (left) went from reds youth player to first-team regular[LNB]Adrian Pennock, Stoke's youth team coach, said: 'We told them in the week what team we would be playing. I don't know what the fuss was about.[LNB] 'Their coaches and academy director said a few things we didn't like. Maybe Stoke are not allowed to beat Liverpool 4-0 at their place.[LNB]'I couldn't believe how they reacted and how arrogant they were. We've since had an apology, so that is that.' [LNB]Liverpool's academy side currently sit in sixth place in the U18 Premier Academy League, below the likes of Blackburn, Manchester United, West Brom, Wolves and Everton. Stoke are bottom of the table.[LNB]One disgruntled fan wrote on the club's website: 'We have such a poor youth team. What happened to an overhaul?
