Konoplyanka and M'Vila to join Liverpool today?

It will come as no surprise to the Anfield faithful when Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka is confirmed as a Liverpool player later on today. Even though there is stiff competition for his signature coming (once again!) from Tottenham, the 24-year-old Ukrainian seems determined to join the Reds after holding talks with Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre in Ukraine earlier this week. Konoplyanka, who has made 35 appearances for his country would be regarded as the ‘major signing’ manager Brendan Rodgers mentioned in an interview after their 4-0 demolition of Everton earlier this week.

Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood still remains hopeful that he can convince Konoplyanka to join Spurs, and with a recent history of stealing players like Gylfi Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey at the last minute from Liverpool, you cannot rule out the possibility of this happening again.

Another player that is likely to arrive on Merseyside today is French defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila, who currently plays at Rubin Kazan. Liverpool initially showed an interest in the 23-year-old a few weeks ago but with Lucas’ recent knee ligament injury sidelining him until possibly April, Rodgers has stepped up his pursuit of a quality replacement for the Brazilian.

These two recruits will give Rodgers some much needed strength in depth as the league enters into its final few months. This transfer deadline always produces surprises and last minute deals, so nothing is guaranteed but it would come as a major shock if Liverpool end up empty handed once the transfer deadline arrives.
