Kenny Dalglish: United may get a 19th League title but we've got five European Cups at Anfield!

Kenny Dalglish insists that the nightmare of Manchester United overtaking Liverpool's title haul does not trouble him ahead of Sunday's showdown. The two clubs meet at Anfield in a mouthwatering clash that will have a huge say in the destiny of the Barclays Premier League. Liverpool and United are currently tied on 18 titles each but the Red Devils are on course to make it a record 19th in May. That was then: Tommy Docherty, Kenny Dalglish and Alex Ferguson at Dalglish's testimonial at Hampden Park in 1986 Ahead of his first clash with Sir Alex Ferguson at Anfield for two decades, Dalglish said: 'We want to help ourselves first. If we help ourselves and it hinders somebody else then that's not our problem, that's theirs. 'As we always say, you can control an awful lot of your own destiny and not someone else's. If we concentrate on ourselves and prepare as well as we can, then whatever eventualities come from that, fine. 'If we get a result on Sunday it is more helpful to us than it is harmful to them. I never considered they would catch us. I was concentrating on what I was supposed to do and that was to manage Blackburn Rovers. 'You never look too far ahead and I wasn't doing that then. To their credit they have won a fantastic amount of Championships and it shows how successful they have been. 'I was working for a good part of that time. I had my own competition with Manchester United when I was at Blackburn and then Newcastle. Friends reunited: Sir Alex (left) and Kenny Dalglish before January's FA Cup tie between the two which United won 1-0 'I never had any feelings. You take greater satisfaction from when your own team is successful and they've been more successful than Liverpool over the past 20 years. 'But at the end of the day we've still got bits we can hang on to. We've still won five European Cups.' Dalglish says he is relishing the opportunity to lock horns with his old adversary.'It's never been any different. If you read my book it'll tell you!' he added. 'I've never had a problem with Fergie. 'I've got respect for the job he has done as a manager. I've never had a problem. I've known him for a long, long time. It must be 40 years or so since I first came across him. I don't have a problem.' Asked if he'll enjoy a glass of red wine with Ferguson to mark his 60th, Dalglish joked: 'Well it's my birthday! He'll have what everybody else gets.'  Dalglish coy on Carroll but ?35m striker could make Liverpool debut against UnitedReina admits to below-par form as Liverpool prepare to face UnitedCarrick defends Fergie's referee rant as United star urges officials to get it rightPromotion-chasing Hull City make Amoo-ve for young Liverpool wingerAs Giggs celebrates 20 years for Man United, we pick his top 10 goalsClatter II: Balotelli's booking makes mockery of Rooney escaping troubleAll the latest Manchester United news, features and opinionAll the latest Liverpool news, features and opinion  Explore more:People: Alex Ferguson, Kenny Dalglish Places: Newcastle, Liverpool
