Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish can already see a successful partnership developing between strikers Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
Both impressed in Monday night's 3-0 victory over Manchester City which was even more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. Suarez was denied early on when his shot was tipped onto a post by goalkeeper Joe Hart but Carroll made the breakthrough everyone at Anfield had been waiting for when he scored his first two goals since joining for £35million in January.
But in addition to the goals it was the relationship between his two forwards, bought for a combined £57.8million, which pleased Dalglish, who said: "You can see the more Andy and Luis play together the better the understanding is. I think everyone can see their partnership is developing but the quality of the service up to them was pretty special."
He added: "It is great to see the big man get off the mark. The first one was a fantastic strike, the second a good header."
Of the performance itself, in which City's expensively-assembled side did not force a save of note from Jose Reina until the 83rd minute, Dalglish added: "It was very enjoyable.
"I don't know whether it was the best performance (since his return as manager in January) but it was enjoyable. It was a fantastic performance. I think they thoroughly deserved the 3-0 victory.
"We had plenty of opportunities to add to the three goals and it is a great boost for us beating a team as good as Man City 3-0 and deservedly as well.
"I don't think it is easy to keep City quiet and I think you should pay credit to them for the way they kept them quiet.
"It was a greater tribute in the second half, even though they were 3-0 up, that they didn't want to lose a goal and they created a lot of chances as well but unfortunately we didn't put any away.
"It is a great result for the players and won't do them any harm at all."
