Kenny Dalglish: Liverpool title famine unthinkable 20 years ago

[LNB]Kenny Dalglish reflected on Liverpool's title drought yesterday and claimed anyone predicting it two decades ago would have been 'sectioned'.[LNB]Liverpool have not ruled the roost since 1990, when Dalglish managed them to the old First Division crown before resigning the following February.[LNB]As one of the most decorated figures in Anfield history launched his autobiography, appropriately enough in Liverpool's trophy room, he said: 'If someone had said, back then, that we wouldn't win another title for at least 20 years, they would have been sectioned. [LNB] History men: Dalglish shares a joke with fellow Liverpool legend Ian Rush (right)[LNB]'Honestly, they would have been shot or locked up, but that is what has happened. [LNB]'We have to get through this period and get back to being as committed and strong as before.[LNB]'A lot of people comment on the conflict between Fergie and me all those years ago, but he has shown you can never write him off. [LNB]Hot seat: Dalglish had no problem with Roy Hodgson's appointment as manager, despite his own application[LNB]'I wasn't concerned about Alex Ferguson at the time, just with my own career and what was happening at Anfield. [LNB]'I couldn't have known he would still be managing United 20-odd years later, but I did know he was really good at his job.'[LNB]Dalglish insisted there was no ill-feeling over Liverpool's blunt response to his pitch for a job that eventually went to Roy Hodgson, following Rafa Benitez's departure.[LNB]He said: 'The only thing I had in mind at the time was trying to help this club. [LNB]'I was prepared to do it and felt ready for the challenge of taking on the likes of Chelsea, United and Arsenal, and Manchester City with all their money.[LNB]'But the club made it clear they didn't want that, and I was never going to throw my toys out of the pram over it. [LNB]'It is an honour and privilege for me to be back, spending time at the academy.[LNB]'I'm fine with that and Roy is a good football man. [LNB]'He chose to come here and place himself under greater scrutiny, and all credit to him for that.'[LNB] Fernando Torres torment: Can he ever realise his dream of winning a trophy at Liverpool? There's nothing bigger!
