Kenny Dalglish in talks over two-year deal at Liverpool

On the ball: Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish[LNB]Kenny Dalglish has moved a step closer to becoming Liverpool's permanent manager after negotiations were opened on a two-year contract.[LNB] John W Henry, head of Fenway Sports Group and Liverpool's principal owner, along with chairman Tom Werner, watched Dalglish's side slip out of the Europa League against Braga on Thursday.[LNB] Despite that setback, FSG see Dalglish, 60, as the man to takeLiverpool forward after being impressed by the work he has done sincetaking over on a temporary basis from Roy Hodgson on January 9.[LNB] Terms have yet to be agreed but it is understood the offer wouldkeep Dalglish at Anfield until 2013. The club were 13th when Hodgsonwas axed but they have climbed to sixth on the back of a run that hasincluded impressive wins over Chelsea and Manchester United.[LNB] On the playing front, Dalglish has called upon Fabio Capello not to gamble with the fitness of ?35million Andy Carroll.[LNB] The Liverpool striker is expected to be heavily involved whenEngland's quest to qualify for Euro 2012 resumes against Wales nextSaturday.[LNB] Carroll and Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon are due to be included in Capello's squad when it is announced tomorrow.[LNB] Capello went to Anfield on Thursday to see Carroll, who has just returned from a serious thigh problem, make his first start for his new club.[LNB] Carroll, who is expected to drop to the bench for tomorrow's game at Sunderland, wilted towards the end of the game and Dalglish admitted it had not been the plan to give him 90 minutes, as he has only been in full training for three weeks.[LNB] Dalglish reminded Capello that Carroll is still well short of peak condition and he does not want to see the 22-year-old suffer any setbacks.[LNB] Dalglish said: 'England have to be responsible with him. There is nothing we can do to stop them picking him, but common sense has to prevail. It is not a case of going to war with anyone.' [LNB] Top of the flops!
