    Keane earns Javier backing

    01 Oct 2008 - 12:34:31

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano is confident that striker Robbie Keane will prove himself to be a major success at Anfield in the near future.

Keane, a £20million summer recruit from Tottenham Hotspur, has yet to get on the scoresheet for his new club, but Mascherano expects that situation to be rectified sooner rather than later.

He commented: "Robbie Keane is a great player and now he is playing in a different system to what he was used to at Spurs.

"He must get used to the different way that we play, but of course I believe he can have a great partnership with Fernando Torres.

"Robbie has scored lots of goals in his career and he will do the same here."

Keane has failed to find the net in ten appearances for Liverpool to date, but played a major role in his side's 2-0 Merseyside derby win over Everton last weekend, setting up the opening goal for strike partner Torres.
