Jordan expects Crouch to stay at Spurs
Joe Jordan says Tottenham will do their best to hold onto Peter Crouch this summer - but he did not give the same promise about Robbie Keane.[LNB] Crouch has been linked with a switch to his former club Liverpool, with Harry Redknapp reportedly looking to free up funds to fund his move for Nice frontman Loic Remy.[LNB]However, Jordan expects Crouch to play an important part for Spurs in the new season.[LNB]He said: "We had a lot of competition when we brought Peter in and he has done very, very well.[LNB]"I don't think we will let him go too easily. He is a player that has proved himself at Tottenham."[LNB]Keane has also been linked with a move away following his loan spell at Celtic last season and, although Jordan talked up his pre-season form, he did not comment on the striker's future.[LNB]"He has been our best player pre-season and scored two at the weekend," added the Spurs assistant.[LNB]"Robbie has come back in good nick, has trained and has played terrific."[LNB]Jordan continued: "When we took over under Harry Redknapp, Spurs were in big trouble.[LNB]"We had two points from eight games and he made a number of signings. He brought Robbie back and Robbie was a fantastic signing, and we stayed up.[LNB]"We have built from that and he has been part of that. He has been so important, not just on the field but in the dressing room as well. He has been a big player for us."[LNB]Redknapp admits he would like another couple of bodies to freshen up the squad, but also accepts one or two could be allowed to move on to.[LNB]"We have progressed. We weren't quite good enough last year to win the Premier League, so you are looking to improve and you may have to give up one player to get another," said Jordan.[LNB]"I don't know what way that will come, it depends on the demand for our players and what we are looking for.[LNB]"We have got some terrific players and we certainly want to keep them but you are looking to bring in and improve your squad by getting other terrific players."[LNB]Jermain Defoe was one of four Spurs' World Cup players not selected by Fabio Capello for England's friendly against Hungary on Wednesday night.[LNB]The striker is carrying a minor groin problem, but Jordan is hopeful Defoe will be fit for the opening game of the new Premier League season against Manchester City.[LNB]"I don't think it is anything serious," said the former Scotland international.[LNB]"Jermain went for a scan and there is an ever so slight tear there.[LNB]"It is more precaution than anything. I think he should be all right.[LNB]"We have had to hold him back. He was desperate to train in the latter part of last week but he was pulled out.[LNB]"We are hoping that some time this week he will be back in training with the lads."
