Johnson to see specialist
31 Dec 2009 - 14:43:58
Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez hopes Glen Johnson will be able to return to action before the beginning of February.
It is positive news for the England international as it had been feared that he could be sidelined for three months after he tore a medial ligament in his right knee during Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Benitez told the Reds' official website: "Johnson has a problem, so he'll see a specialist and then we'll talk but we know he'll be out for at least one month. But we are waiting for another opinion and then we'll know how long."
Johnson has been one of the few success stories in a torrid season for the Anfield club.
The 25-year-old has made 21 appearances and scored two goals following his £18million arrival from Portsmouth last summer.
Meanwhile, Benitez also has good news about Albert Riera, Martin Kelly and Nabil El Zhar.
He added: "Kelly and Nabil still need maybe one or two weeks. Riera will start training tomorrow, so hopefully in the next week he can be available."
