Johnson eyes end to injury nightmare

iverpool and England defender Glen Johnson is keen to leave his injury problems in the past and prove his worth for club and country.[LNB] The full-back has seen his first season as a Liverpool player regularly interrupted by spells on the sidelines.[LNB]He has been unable to put together a prolonged run in the side as a result, preventing him from being able to justify the hefty fee the Reds splashed out for his services last summer.[LNB]Johnson is currently nursing a calf problem, the latest in a long line of problems, and admits he is unlikely to figure in Liverpool's final game of the season away at Hull City on Sunday.[LNB]"I'm pushing to be fit for the weekend but it's a bit doubtful at the moment," he told Sky Sports News.[LNB]He is, however, hoping this latest setback will be his last and that he will be back to his best in 2010/11.[LNB]"You get a run in the team and start doing well and then you get an injury," he said.[LNB]"You are then in the gym for a month or so trying hard to get over the injury, and then it just keeps repeating. I have had so many injuries this season it has been frightening but next season can't be as bad, surely."[LNB]Before Johnson turns his attention to a new season with Liverpool he is hoping to play a major role for England at this summer's World Cup finals.[LNB]Securing global glory would help to make amends for a difficult season both for himself and Liverpool, but the 25-year-old admits the Three Lions must beware of complacency when they arrive in South Africa.[LNB]"You can never be too confident," he said.[LNB]"It's going to be a massive tournament with a lot of good players and a lot of good teams so you can't go there expecting too much.[LNB]"We have just got to prepare ourselves and make sure we are at the best of our ability in each game and take it from there."
