JOHN ALDRIDGE: On field flair can help to lift the gloom at Liverpool FC

28 September 2010 03:00
IN all the years I have followed Liverpool, I have never known the mood to be quite as bleak and pessimistic as it is right at this moment in time.[LNB]We all know that it is thanks - in no small part - to the misery that Tom Hicks and George Gillett have heaped on the club and, once again on Saturday, we saw how high passions are running amongst supporters, who vehemently oppose their reign.[LNB]Everything surrounding the owners is making the masses feel miserable and there is no doubt that the players have been affected by what is going on - they are reading what we are reading and it will be dragging them down, no question.[LNB]Yet, as difficult as it may be to deal with, the players - and the management - are the only ones who can help lift the mood at the minute by producing performances that will restore some much needed positivity.[LNB] It's up to them to make it happen - never mind Hicks and Gillett. Those connected with the football side of affairs need to rally around and show the kind of form we know they are capable of producing.[LNB]Other than one good effort against Steaua Bucharest, September has been a miserable month in terms of results and the last two - against Northampton and Sunderland - have simply highlighted our current plight and there will be many who think things are going to get worse.[LNB]Yes, there is a chance a new owner could come in and give Roy Hodgson money to start operating at the top end of the transfer market but what happens if Hicks and Gillett manage to pull a rabbit from the hat and refinance?
