John Aldridge: Liverpool FC need Andy Carroll, and they could do with Ashley Young too!

JANUARY is coming, and with it a flood of speculation about signings and transfer targets and so forth.[LNB]I've seen one or two people claiming Liverpool need to be looking to sign four or five players, but, whilst it is a lovely thought, I just can't see it happening.[LNB]January is a tough time to buy players, and the new owners do not seem the type to be going on a huge spending spree just yet.[LNB]The key is to get in maybe two signings of real quality that will improve the team rather than the squad. This is no time for Liverpool to be signing peripheral players.[LNB] Of course the big questions are who?[LNB]It is painfully obvious where we need to strengthen; left wing is a major problem, and we could do with an extra striker.[LNB]I think Liverpool need to be going after the likes of Ashley Young and Andy Carroll. These are Premier League players, with quality and plenty of time on their side. They would both offer something different to what we have now, though whether they are available at this time remains to be seen.
