John Aldridge: Liverpool FC fans will not accept loan signing in January

I have been concerned by some of the contradicting messages coming out of the Liverpool FC.

Chairman Tom Werner has said the fans will be happy with the business Liverpool do in January but just recently, the manager has been playing it all down. Brendan Rodgers has been saying there will be business, but not big business. Supporters, understandably, are sceptical and worried about what is going to happen next month but hopefully Brendan is saying this so that clubs don’t think we’ll be spending a lot of money.

We do not want to be held to ransom and if Rodgers is playing everything down for that reason, then that is fine. But the supporters will not accept more loan players. We are building for the future of the club and we need to be buying players who will be taking us forward for years to come. The club’s American owners have got to back the manager. They are the ones who sacked Kenny Dalglish and so they have now got to back the man they have brought in as his replacement.
