JOHN ALDRIDGE: Dirk Kuyt proving a very important player at Liverpool FC

19 September 2009 01:00
DIRK KUYT doesn't always get the recognition he deserves but he's become a very important player at Anfield. His work-rate has always been excellent but technically he has got a lot better. Both against Burnley and Debrecen he followed up shots from outside the box and was rewarded. I scored a lot of my goals like that and you need to be alert to those opportunities. These days when the ball bends and swerves so much it's vital the strikers follow the ball in. Kuyt has done it twice over the past week and got two goals. It was a vital strike in midweek as it settled a drab game against the Hungarians. Games in the group stage can be like that and the Champions League doesn't really get exciting until the last 16. Sometimes teams bring you down to their level.
