John Aldridge and Dave Beasant have recreated that 1988 FA Cup final penalty

From the moment AFC Wimbledon were drawn against Liverpool, there was one match that came immediately to everybody’s mind: the 1988 FA Cup final.

And there’s one moment from that match that stands out above all others, too – the John Aldridge penalty that was saved by Dave Beasant.

It was 1-0 to the unfashionable Crazy Gang when referee Brian Hill pointed the spot. The rest unfolded a bit – but not entirely – like this.

The modern-day incarnation of the Crazy Gang – AFC Wimbledon – face Liverpool in the third round tonight.
