Javier Mascherano and Rafa Benitez 460[LNB]JAVIER Mascherano has admitted his next contract is likely to be his last at Liverpool.[LNB]Despite interest from Barcelona last summer, talks are ongoing between the club and Mascherano's representatives to tie the combative midfielder to Anfield for the foreseeable future.[LNB]The Argentina captain has stated his desire to remain on Merseyside for the time being but has now also revealed he would like to end his playing days in his homeland.[LNB]'Liverpool has been fantastic and I don't get tired of saying that,' said Mascherano.[LNB]'They've treated my family and I superbly right from day one and we don't have any complaints.[LNB]'Liverpool is a lovely little city. It's a port city with a lot of hard-working people and its grown a lot in the last few years.'[LNB]Mascherano started his career with Buenos Aires club River Plate with whom he won the Primera Division before a short stint with Brazilian club Corinthians.[LNB]From there he moved to West Ham where an ill-fated spell prompted Rafa Benitez to swoop for Mascherano.[LNB]The 25-year-old has spoken of his gratitude to Benitez for rescuing him and providing a second chance to prove himself in the Premier League.[LNB]Although perfectly happy with life in Liverpool for now, Mascherano would dearly love to finish his career where it all began for him.[LNB]'You never know and I don't want to be tied down by what I say, but I don't think I'll be staying on at Liverpool forever,' he said.[LNB]'Right now I'm thinking about playing for another three or four years at the highest level and returning home to play at a good level there.
