Javier Mascherano: Liverpool is where I see my future

Manager Rafael Benitez had previously made it clear he was going nowhere, and Mascherano has now added his voice to that view. "My future is here. I am here and I will continue to give 100 per cent and it will always be like this," he said. "I think we have taken a big step this season, a really big step. In the past three or four seasons Liverpool have lost the league maybe in December or January but this time we are there right at the very end of the season and we still have a chance so this is very important. "Our job now is to continue to work hard and to improve because we have shown that we can win against the biggest teams." The frustration for Liverpool is that they could end the campaign having scored more goals than Manchester United, lost just two games against United's four, achieved a bigger goal difference and also completed a double over the Old Trafford side. But Mascharano is still not giving up hope on stealing the title as the season nears the finish line. "We know that we still have a chance so we will be supporting the teams who play against United, but the main thing is that we are doing our own job," he added. Meanwhile, with Middlesbrough's future looking ever more likely to be in the Championship, Liverpool are said to have re-registered their interest in Stewart Downing. The Daily Mail claims the 24-year-old winger has become the subject of a £12 million transfer deal in order to give Benitez more depth in midfield. The paper also links Totenham's Aaron Lennon with a move to Merseyside.
