Jamie Redknapp's Weekend Watch: Rooney needs help at United

GIVE ROONEY HELPWhere would Manchester United be without their talisman, Wayne Rooney? He has now scored 13 Premier League goals ‑ his best-ever return at this stage of a season ‑ and has stepped up his performances. But I think he needs a hand. United should be looking to buy another superstar forward who could help overcome the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo.[LNB] United talisman: Wayne Rooney leading the line against Hull[LNB] THANKS, STEVIE! The timing of his run and the execution of the header reminded me of Bryan Robson. So how many times is Steven Gerrard going to save Rafa Benitez? His manager said recently that Gerrard had not performed of late, but I hope he said thank you to him after the Wolves game. Aston Villa v Liverpool tomorrow is a huge game now.[LNB]THAT'S A BIG CALLShockwaves: Bellamy was dropped by new City boss Mancini[LNB]Roberto Mancini has already shown that he will make big decisions. Leaving out Craig Bellamy, Manchester City's best player this season, for his first game in charge could have rebounded on the new manager. He made five changes against Stoke, most of them enforced, but the dropping of Bellamy will send shockwaves through the dressing room.[LNB]JOY OF JORDAN I like the look of Jordan Henderson. He snaps about in midfield and isn't always pleasing on the eye, but he has a driving force about him and seems to have some of the strengths of a young Steven Gerrard. The Sunderland teenager works for a top manager in Steve Bruce and is an all-action player who will get his team a goal. [LNB]BLASTER BECKFORD Last week, Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford was booed after his reaction to being substituted by his manager. This weekend, he scored two goals which helped Leeds increase their lead at the top of League One. It's at times such as these that you discover the temperament and character of players and his response would have been noted in higher divisions.[LNB] Best of British: Scott Parker could leave West Ham during the January transfer window[LNB]DEALS TO BE HAD? It's hard doing business in January, when often only the desperate are forced to do deals at inflated prices. But there may be some good British buys to be had this time. West Ham's Scott Parker (pictured), Craig Bellamy of Manchester City, Stoke striker James Beattie and Adam Johnson of Middlesbrough will all be standing by their telephones. [LNB]KEEPING THE FAITHGoalkeepers have a hard job, especially with the lightweight balls that swerve and dip. Two were excellent at the weekend; Heurelho Gomes of Spurs, who has benefited from working with Tony Parks, and Birmingham's Joe Hart. Hart was sent on loan by Manchester City but has improved and his form has coincided with Birmingham's 10-game unbeaten run. The timing of his return to top form might get him a World Cup place.[LNB]  Hull City 1 Manchester United 3: Electric Wayne Rooney fires as Reds close gap on ChelseaManchester City 2 Stoke 0: New manager Roberto Mancini finds friends and foes at Eastlands West Ham 2 Portsmouth 0: Zola knows cost of living without priceless Scott ParkerGRAHAM POLL: Why the fourth official was right to get involved at Anfield [LNB]
