Therewas a moment on Sunday when Robin van Persie reminded me of Glenn Hoddle's famous goal for Spurs against Watford in 1983. The one that wasreplayed endlessly on Match of the Day and now YouTube. [LNB]Hoddle takes a pass in the box, turns and clips a shot over Steve Sherwood, like a golfer with a pitching wedge. [LNB]If Robin stopped taking corners, he might score even more...[LNB]The best of BritishMuch is written about the continental explosion in the Barclays Premier League, but it is also warming to note there were 15 British players involved in the Liverpool v Manchester United game at Anfield: 11 Englishmen, two players from Scotland, one from Wales and one from Northern Ireland. My old mate Lee Clark is doing a very good job at Huddersfield in League One. They won 4-0 at Exeter and are now 38 games undefeated in the league. Lee was 13 when we first met and we went on to play together for the England Schoolboys team. He was the captain and the best young midfielder at that age. A great lad, I'm not sure I ever thought he would become a boss, but I'm delighted for him.[LNB]Serie A for a-wfulI'm glad I don't have to rely on Serie A for a living. Sunday's early programme of six games produced the following results: 0-0; 0-0; 0-0; 0-0;  0-0 and 0-2. Only one team, Bologna, scored on their sorry Sunday. There were, however, 31 yellow cards in those six games![LNB]Is Dan the man?Like the England manager, Fabio Capello, I'm going to be watching Daniel Sturridge closely in the next few months. The truth is, I'm not totally convinced about him yet. But there is a chance for a young English striker to make his mark - like Danny Welbeck or Sturridge, who is playing, scoring and taking his Chelsea chance.[LNB] Dan the man: Sturridge (right) celebrates his goal on Saturday[LNB]Packing them inHealthy gates of 30,000-plus at three grounds outside the top flight: Derby, West Ham and Sheffield United. Another turn-out that caught my eye was at Southend where almost 10,000 went to Roots Hall to see Paul Sturrock's team draw with Morecambe.[LNB]It's another PoyetMy spies tell me Diego Poyet, son of Gus, was excellent in Charlton's U18 2-0 win at West Ham. A driving central midfielder, this dynamic junior England player can pass, tackle and create a tempo to a game. Lots of bigger clubs know of him, Charlton have done well to nurture him.
